The Uni-Vest Weight Vest Long fits tight to the torso and the low profile, flexible weights makes for one of the most comfortable, contoured fits possible. The standard weight of this vest is 20 lbs adjustable from 2-20 lbs lbs via 38 individual 1/2 pound FlexMetal® rubber weights (vest with no weights weighs 1 lb). This Value Package includes an additional 20 lbs of weight for a maximum potential weight of 40 lbs. The Uni-Vest Long is called the Long since it measures longer than the Shorty and has two velcro waist closures instead of the one on the Uni-Vest Shorty. This longer design also features more internal pockets so the Long vest can accommodate up to 40lbs. of weight. This vest features a quick velcro closure system at the waist which secures the rear to the front of the bib style vest. The body hugging fit of this weight vest keeps it from shifting during the the most vigorous exercise. The tight to the torso, molded, custom fit eliminates weight shifting during activities like power walking, plyometrics, hill bounding, running, lateral drills and vertical jumps. Weight vests are also used in the gym when performing squats, lunges, dips, pull-ups, push-ups, etc.

How much weight?

Words of caution. If you're using the vest for dynamic drills like plyometrics, sprints, running, hill bounding and jumps etc. it is generally recommended that users do not exceed 10% of their bodyweight as a maximum weight of the vest. The impact forces upon the foot landing is 3-4 times body weight so a 200lb person with a 20lb vest on can achieve approximately 880lbs of impact force. The best place to start, from our experience, is at 2.5% of body weight and progressively adapt to more weight in small increments (microloading). Too much weight may also conflict with biomechanics. The goal is to increase power which is a factor of accelerating body mass quickly. For dynamic movement start light, build-up slowly, note your biomechanics and think power (speed of the movement).

FlexMetal® rectangular vest weights weigh 1/2 lbs. each. This thin weight with a large surface area "sticks" inside the pocket of the vest so the weight will not move from even the most vigorous activity.
